The availability of fresh produce in Switzerland is one of my favorite things about living here.

We just returned from a fantastic road trip in the US (posts to come!), but we were a little disappointed at how small the fresh food sections were in most supermarkets.

Our trip to Whole Foods at the end was very welcome!

Right now, it’s all about the asparagus.

These wondrous little green sticks come into their own at this time of year, and it would be such a shame to let them go without grilling them up with some lemon and adding lashings of herby, yogurt sauce.

It’s just delicious and the easiest thing in the world to make, you’re going to love it!

One of the reasons I love grilling asparagus instead of boiling or steaming it is that you retain all of the flavor and the color. It also remains crispy and not at all soggy.

I like to squeeze some lemon juice over the asparagus right before grilling so that the lemon juice can create a little steam and soak into the asparagus as it cooks.

All it takes is 2-3 minutes on each side of a hot griddle pan and the asparagus will be perfect and ready to be enjoyed immediately.

On its own, this asparagus is already perfectly packed full of flavor, and ready to be served on a fresh salad, or with a poached egg!

However, this time I have an extra twist for you!

This herby, zingy, yogurt dressing is so fresh and green that it compliments the subtle flavor of the asparagus perfectly.

All you have to do is blend the herbs with the yogurt, add half a clove of garlic, some salt, and pepper and you are ready to go.

Just drizzle it onto the asparagus for a zingy hit!

You can really serve this however you like. My suggestion is on top of a piece of toasted bread, a little cream cheese, then the asparagus, some cress, a crumbling of feta cheese, and the dressing.

All of these flavors have a nice balance of sharp, zingy, and fresh and would make a lovely lunch or snack.

I hope you enjoy this, and do let me know if you try it out!

Chargrilled Asparagus with Herb & Yogurt Dressing

This Chargrilled Asparagus with Herb and Yogurt Dressing combines smoky asparagus with a refreshing herb-infused yogurt dressing, creating a perfect side that's both delicious and wholesome.
Prep Time10 minutes

Course: Appetizer, Side Dish
Cuisine: American, Mediterranean
Servings: 4
Calories: 35kcal

Ingredients

  • 15 asparagus fresh stems
  • ½ lemon juice

For the Dressing

  • 4.5 oz natural yogurt
  • parsley fresh, small handful
  • coriander fresh, small handful
  • ½ garlic clove
  • 1 mint leaves fresh
  • salt
  • pepper
  • lemon juice squeeze

Instructions

  • Prep the Asparagus by chopping off the ends. You can also do this by holding the asparagus and bending it near the end. It will naturally snap off where the woody portion ends and leave you with just the fresh tip.
  • Lightly oil a griddle pan and heat to a high heat. Spritz the asparagus with lemon juice and grill it for 2-3 minutes on each side. Place onto a serving plate as soon as it’s done.
  • To make the sauce, simply blend all the ingredients in a blender. Adjust the amount of seasoning and garlic to your taste.
  • Serve the asparagus however you like. I like to serve it on a slice of toasted bread with a little cream cheese, topped with the asparagus, garnished with some cress and feta cheese and then drizzled with the dressing. Get creative!

  1. Your asparagus dish sounds vibrant and fresh! It will have to wait till spring here as I try not to buy imported produce as much as I can.

    • Thanks Martyna I hope you love it! That’s one of the things I am loving so much about living in Switzerland compared to the UK. The supermarket is always full of what’s in season right now, so not much imported stuff. You won’t find asparagus and berries in the Autumn. Right now they are full of melons and peaches!

  2. Yum!! I love asparagus! And this is such a fresh way to serve it. Perfect for summer.

On another note, this is my first time visiting your blog, and I’m so excited to see you’re in CH! My mom’s family is Swiss and we’ll all be meeting back near Aarau this summer for a reunion. My husband and I will stay in Europe for the fall to travel around. Any favorite spots to visit near you? It’s been several years since I’ve been :)

    • That is so exciting!! We are pretty near Aarau, it’s on the way to Zurich. Switzerland generally is just beautiful and it’s so easy to hop on a train to get around, everywhere is so close. If you can get to the Black Forest in Germany that’s well worth a visit. Also you can even get the train to Italy from Basel so maybe a weekend there!

I hope you have a great time!

  3. This looks amazingly delicious! I love asparagus! Pinning for later :) Thank you for sharing! #PeonyProjectLove
