Falafel is one of my favourite burger/salad/anything toppings, it’s just so versatile. The best kind of falafel is herby, garlicky, crispy, soft, and wholesome. Store bought falafel often isn’t. So let’s make our own, trust me, it’s awesome.
To make the falafel mixture, I used the Easy Pull food processor from Zyliss. What I love about this food processor is the complete control you have. You can accurately process things to exactly the consistency you want, which is exactly what you want for something like falafel. You want to leave some texture in the mixture so your falafel has some bite.
All the ingredients are put into the food processor together, then mixed with flour to make a dough. This dough is easily rolled into small patties and then refrigerated for about half an hour. You could probably get away with 10-15 minutes if you were short on time though!
These lighter falafels don’t require deep frying either, just a shallow fry in a small amount of olive oil will produce the most crispy, delicious falafels you have ever had!
I chose to top my burgers with lettuce, fresh sliced tomato and some caramalized onion, but you can really add anything you want. What are your favourite burger toppings?

Easy Homemade Falafel Burgers
Makes: Approximately 22 Falafel
1 Can Chickpeas (Rinsed and Drained)
1 Cup Chopped Parsley
1 Cup Chopped Coriander
4 Cloves Garlic
1.5 Tablespoons Tahini
3 Tablespoons Lemon Juice
1 Teaspoon Ground Cumin
Pinch of Sea Salt
Pinch of Pepper
4 Tablespoons All Purpose Flour
For Topping (optional) Freshley Sliced Tomato, Lettuce, Caramelised Onions, etc…
1. Place all the ingredients except the flour in the food processor. Process until you have a slightly textured mixture (as pictured above). Tip the mixture into a bowl and add in the flour until thoroughly combined. You may need more or less flour depending on the heat where you are and also the moisture in the other ingredients. Add the flour one tablespoon at a time until you have a ball of mixture that holds itself together and isn’t sticky, but isn’t crumbly either.
2. Scoop tablespoon sized balls of the mixture out and roll, flatten them slightly and place on a plate covered in baking paper. Cover with clingfilm and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
3. Heat 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil in a pan and fry the falafels for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
4. Load up your burgers with all your favourite toppings!
